The first thing that comes to mind when we think of is the picture-perfect holidays and the snowy Alps. Overlooking the town of Weinfelden and offering unabated views of the distant mountains of Switzerland and Austria is this beautiful house clad in wood.
The top floor contains the master bedroom and luxurious bathroom along with an expansive walk-in closet. Embracing a neutral color scheme all three levels seem like a natural extension of one another even as pops of bright color are kept to a bare minimum.
To minimize the impact of the building to the site — it’s a hybrid structure made entirely of wood with some steel and very little concrete — the architects also ensured that the house is completely off the grid. Which is why independent sources of heat and electricity were added.
The stylish private residence was built around an extensive garden where a giant remains untouched and the focal point is the vast outdoors. Creating a seamless transition between the indoors and the lovely garden and deck space outside the house encourages its residents to spend more time outside than indoors!
Surrounding the house is a dense oak forest and the designer took complete advantage of the views outside as they form wonderful framed backdrops in the kitchen the dining room and the bedroom. An open-plan living area with a comfy sectional a corner fireplace and unassuming decor is visually connected with the garden outside. The master suite boys’ bedroom with twin beds and a stylish girl’s bedroom are housed on the top level.
Double glazed windows perfect insulation and a raised wooden platform underneath ensure that the heating and cooling needs of the home are kept to a minimum. Sliding doors and skylights usher in ample natural ventilation and passive heating technology keeps the home warm during winters and pleasant during the summers.
Downtown is renowned for its beautiful industrial lofts that tend to combine the modern with the classic design style that is so unique to the city. While this stylish loft townhouse in the neighborhood does not embrace any industrial overtones it sure charms you with its smart usage of available space and proximity to the bustling English Bay.
